On October 1,2011 a plaque was erected at 2nd and Market in the City of Philadelphia noting the beginning of Volunteer Firefighting in America which began at this location and founded by our very own Ben Franklin.
This came about due to the efforts of Edward Welch, a long time Park Ranger at the Independence Hall Location and a life member/Firefighter for the Wyndmoor Hose Co.#1. Ed spent years bringing this to fruition. Thank you Ed for all your hard work, it has been an honor being a friend and a fellow firefighter to you. KB
